Jo qualified as a Physiotherapist in 2001 from Southampton University. She worked extensively in the NHS in Bournemouth Hospital and Poole NHS Trust gaining a broad range of experience in many areas of Physiotherapy.
As a senior Physiotherapist she specialised in Neurological Physiotherapy working on stroke units, acute neurology wards, out-patient and community neurology and on a brain injury unit. This experience helped her to develop a greater understanding of normal movement and function. Jo completed her training in the Bobath approach during this time. This has achieved international recognition as one of the foremost approaches to the treatment and management of people with neurological conditions.
Jo started working in musculoskeletal physiotherapy within private practice in 2005 and since that time has highly developed her musculoskeletal Physiotherapy skills. She has a passion for rehabilitation and getting people back to their work, hobbies and sports. She loves to use acupuncture to help with pain relief and is a member of the AACP (Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists). She also enjoys treating patients using manual therapy and massage. She ensures that she is up to date with her knowledge and works according to evidence based practice through attending regular courses and listening to podcasts. Jo is HCPC registered and is a member of the CSP (Chartered Society of Physiotherapy).
Jo is a Clinical Pilates teacher and an accredited APPI matwork instructor (Australian Physiotherapy Pilates institute). She is passionate about teaching Clinical Pilates both to her patients attending Physiotherapy and in her Clinical Pilates classes. She loves helping clients to reduce and manage their pain and return to hobbies and sports through the use of Pilates exercise. She has attended many courses run by the APPI and regularly attends the APPI conference to ensure she is delivering a high standard of Clinical Pilates and is up to date with the most recent evidence. She also presents courses for the APPI teaching other health care professionals to be Clinical Pilates instructors.
Jo is a mother of two and apart from keeping up with her children’s busy social lives and sporting activities she enjoys playing and coaching football, Pilates and going to the gym.
