What is the difference between Pilates and Clinical Pilates

Have you been wondering what the difference is between Pilates and Clinical Pilates? Pilates is taught by a Pilates instructor and Clinical Pilates is taught by a Physiotherapist who has an in-depth knowledge of pathology, healing, normal body function, and movement patterns.

This knowledge allows them to assess each individual and determine which exercises will be the most effective for them. This is particularly important if you have a history of injury – whether it be lower back pain, neck pain, a medical condition such as osteoporosis or arthritis, or if you are recovering after having surgery or after having a baby.

It can also be useful if you are an injured athlete or sports person wanting to return to fitness and sport. There may be certain exercises which need to be adapted specifically for you in order to avoid further injury or harm (which a Physiotherapist is able to do). Clinical Pilates classes are kept small to ensure good levels of supervision and so that the Physiotherapist can adapt or progress exercises as necessary. The exercises performed in Clinical Pilates classes have all been modified from regular Pilates exercises to suit all ages and abilities particularly those with a history of injury.
